The year of travelling to Asia…

So it’s looking like I’ll be heading to Singapore for a conference in early December. It’s funny that I’ve never been really interested in heading in that direction of the world, but it seems like this year my job has other ideas. Basically it’s a conference the lead designer wasn’t able to attend. But hey – I’ll take his cast-offs when they involve giving keynotes and 5-star hotels.

That should be my last trip for awhile. I have the distinct feeling that whatever little bits of life I have left now will evaporate completely when January rolls around. That’ll be when I actually have to start turning down more invitations than I can accept.

Things I need to do before then: hire a housekeeper. buy some new socks. have a party. get rid of old clothes that are exploding beyond my limited closet space. spend time with the friends.

things that happened at work today

1. I was sitting in a meeting room and the phone rang. It’s a phone that doesn’t ring very often, and is really only in the room in case you have to have a conference call. I answered with, “Domino’s Pizza, can I help you?”. And the woman on the other end said, “Is this Coldstone Creamery?” I told her she had a wrong number. Total Calvin & Hobbes surreal moment.

2. I went out for a couple fruity drinks in fake coconuts, complete with umbrellas with some of my co-workers. They fuckin’ rock, my co-workers do.

3. I had less than 1 hour at my desk today. My days are now completely consumed by meetings. I don’t know what I would do without my laptop. I wouldn’t answer even one email if I didn’t have it.

4. I believed for a moment in time that I’m doing a really good job.

Hey! What happened to my free time???

I knew it was coming. I now officially have more work to do than I can get done during regular business hours. Lots and lots of very cool stuff going on. And I’m absolutely fired up. And while it’s not really “crunch” time yet, my parts of the project are heating up.

Of course this didn’t prevent me from a last-minute day trip to LA on Sunday for Big Daddy’s birthday brunch with our pal, Xenu at the Celebrity Center. Thanks for the tour, Josh. We never would have found the parking lot without you.

Supermodel Tim is in town for a couple days so hoping to try a new restaurant in Hayes Valley with him tonight. Hoping that Staz and the Engineer join us – haven’t seen those guys in ages!

Lots of games coming out this week, so hopefully I’ll have a bit of a gaming weekend – bought Rocket Slime yesterday (soooo cute!), Tiger Woods for the 360 today, Sid Meyer’s Railroads, and my eternal quest for a lvl 60 char in WoW before Burning Crusade comes out in a month or two.

Plus a pub crawl on Saturday (maybe I’ll bring my DS? heh). Plus something else on Sunday I can’t remember what.

Check out the NY Times tomorrow

Big article in the Sunday magazine about the game.

Most of it right on. A couple small errors that I’m sure fans will glom onto and obsess over.

Heh. No pressure, eh?
