sleep evades me

Middle of the night. Can’t sleep. Checking work email. Wondering if I should fire up my other computer and do some real work since I’m awake anyhow. Wishing I could sleep. Should’ve taken an ambien. Too late now or I’ll never get up in 5 hours.

Trading emails about ribeye steaks with a co-worker. People starting to put in the extra hours a bit – enough that middle of the night email threads are happening. Still not stupid crazy. Ship still a ways out. “2007,” says our PR rep. But I’m getting fired up, and other people are too. So much to do. Want it to be great.

Writing sentences in staccato bursts. Poking at emails. Having the “is grass-fed better then corn-fed beef” debate with the co-worker embeded in a reply to with a subject line about arenas and skin sinks.

Sleepy. Awake. Gonna do some real work. Or sleep. dunno.

And to the reader from…

Gays, Illinios (pop. 259), welcome!

I just got all set up with Google Analytics and can now get look at a little map of the world to see where people are visiting from.

I guess if you live in a town where the tourist attraction is a two-story outhouse, then reading blogs on a Sunday is a pretty welcome diversion.

To paraphrase the evil Dr. Will…

Recently Will on BB-All Stars said something along the line of… money doesn’t buy happiness, but it does buy stuff. And I like stuff!

And on that note, today I walked into a Best Buy and finally plunked down a big chunk o’ change and got a new Sony HDTV. It’ll arrive on Thursday around 11:30 am and then somehow I’m actually going to be expected to go to the office for the afternoon. I anticipate next weekend will be one in which I accept no invitations to attend zombie flash mobs, fabulous BBQs or any other type of activity which will not involve my new TV.

Why now? There’s a couple reasons.

Firstly, I got a hiring bonus for hooking up an ex-girlfriend with a job at my company so had a little unexpected windfall from that. On a side note, I’ve heard there is actually a third lesbian in the video game industry working up in Montreal somewhere, which means that I’ve already dated 50% of the known pool of possible lesbians in my industry. Pretty cool, huh? Yeah, greeeeaaat. <sigh>

Secondly, Dead Rising. The first XBox360 game that made me crave being able to see a game in HD. There are so many zombies. They need killing. In HD.

Thirdly and perhaps most callously, I wanted a reminder that I do not share in the responsibility sets of my friends. While I love that my friends are busy making, raising and trying to make children, it’s seeming abundantly clear that I’m not heading in that direction. While I’m certainly working on my retirement fund since I won’t have any kids to take care of me (do kids even do that for parents anymore?) when I get moved into the old lesbian’s home (where I will sit on the porch and ogle the cute young nurses, no doubt) I also don’t have to save for a college fund for 1 or more little munchkins and all of the other myriad of financial responsibilities that children bring with ‘em. Love the kids. But since I ain’t having one, I get to buy myself stuff.

And I like stuff.

ps. Decided to keep the blog here. I may start a secondary one where I talk more about work stuff to my closest pals, but turns out there actually people who read this stuff who don’t want me to move it. Huh. Crazy.

off to LA

After getting detailed emails from the travel services people at work about what I can’t bring on the plane, talking to co-workers and reading articles about getting through airport security today, I cancelled my flight to LA tomorrow and I’ll be driving down instead. Given the additional time it’ll take to get through the airport and the fact that I drive really, really fast, I should get to LA in about the same amount of time it would take me to travel there by plane tomorrow. The car service was going to pick me up at 7:15. I’ll be leaving around 6:30 from here instead.

I prefer to have my car with me in LA anyhow. And now I can come back whenever I want on Sunday. Hopefully by the time I go to Vegas in September the airports will be more back to normal.

Although they really never will be back to what they were pre-9/11. That much is clear.

Getting to be that time…

After years of having a personal blog here, it’s probably time to move on. Between the many ex-girlfriends I have reading and the spore fan boys/girls that have found this blog, I’m starting to have to be very careful in what I post here. And that’s not the blog I’m after.

I’ll keep this blog going on occasion with (hopefully) funny posts from the world of Spore and other game related stuff, but my pals are going to get a link soon to a less public view of my world.

Dear Internet,

I missed you this morning. You with your Google and YouTube. Your email and instant messaging. All of the articles blogged, digged, and slashdotted. Your fresh game builds and content. The evil dead Cisco router denied me of your joys for close to 6 hours.

I actually had to talk to people. Discuss ideas with them in person! Review plans and go over schedules. With paper and pens of all the crazy things!

Finally I came home. Shell-shocked in wonder at these actual human beings at my office. And thank heavens. You, my internet, were waiting for me.

I <heart> you.
