July 2006

it’s hot, hot, hot.

You know it’s crazy when it’s in the upper 80’s in San Francisco in the summer. The East Bay was even hotter today, so much so that the idea of getting on the bridge to go to a bbq in Moraga this afternoon when traffic was heavy and it was 101 there was too much. Well, that and the fact that Evite was down and I didn’t know what time the bbq was and where in Moraga it was. I could see myself wandering the hot streets of Moraga hollering, “Melissa! Melissa!”

Not.

So my apartment is cooling down, tho it’s looking like another hot night. Hot as last night? Hmm.

A different kind of hot… Have you been watching Big Brother? Did you see Marcy in the tub with Janelle? Didja? So unfair. Well, at least I’ll get to hear about it first hand after he wins.

formatting in IE

I looked at this page with IE for Windows yesterday and found out that the CSS formatting is messed up. I’ll fix it this weekend or I’ll pick a new theme or something.

Works good in Firefox tho. heh.

Dear Big Daddy’s Mom,

I’ve gotten your notes to my blog and have taken the proper steps to block you from sending any more comments to my blog.

Clearly if I wanted to have some kind of drawn out discussion with you, I would have responded the first time you left a comment. In other words, you can leave me alone now – I’m not going to engage you in some kind of freaky conversation about you feeling slighted by something that was written in my blog over a year ago.

Your son is one of my closest friends on the planet. I’d do almost anything for him, including come with him to Mississippi so that I could share another part of his life with him – I’ve loved having him get to know my family and was curious about his family. But that’s about as far as it goes.

You can go about your business now. Odds are good I will never set foot in the state of Mississippi again. And you’d hate San Francisco. Don’t come here.

And by the way, Mississippi is the fattest state in the country: http://calorielab.com/news/2005/08/25/obesity-visualized-state-by-state/

a better end to the week

Did that thing towards the end of the week where I stop giving a shit about the people part, and I just focus on the work part. And that should be a lesson to me. The project is fucking cool and I love it. The people are crazy and full of themselves and I am too. Rinse and repeat.

is this irony?

It seems like it’s always the weeks where work is sucking the worst when the effervescent recruiter calls and asks if I’m interested in a new position.

Her: Hi! How are you??? This is Rebecca from <game recruiting agency>! Sorry to call you at work, it’s the only phone number I have for you. How’s your day going? Great!! Great!!
Me: I’m not really looking for a new position, thanks (shift in seat. try not to scream)
Her: That’s cool! Really glad to hear you’re happy in your current job! It’d be great if I got another phone number and we could talk about it this wonderful position that you seem perfect for at a more convenient time??
Me: No really. I’m happy in my job (grit teeth. gnash teeth together).
Her: Great! That’s awesome. Maybe you can just give me your email address and I can follow up in 6 months or something.
Me: Look. I’m on Spore. Contact me again when we ship, ok? Thanks. Really. (click)

And then I had to get up and go walk around the block, because co-worker who’s name shall not be spoken totally pissed me off again.

I should only love my job. I should be nothing but thrilled to have my job. But then again. It’s a job – and all jobs suck sometimes. I just have to remember that it’s worth it. Which it is.
