Lists

Things I still need to do: buy a new suitcase, pick up a prescription, take laundry in, pick laundry up, pack, buy power converters (i think i actually need different ones for Shanghai and HK, ugh), get a book i want to read (any suggestions?), charge all my little toys for the flight, new headphones, maybe a new ipod, get Cheese to petcamp. And remember the Ambien (like remember the Alamo, but different)

Things I’ve done: backed up the files on my computer that haven’t been backed up in ages, get all of my presentation materials together, get all of the engineers i work with settled in their deliverables so they know what to do while i’m gone, go to dinner club, started this list.

I spent about 2 hours looking for information about luggage. Basically it sounds like you get what you pay for so if I buy the cheap ass stuff at Costco, it’ll last me a couple trips and get kinda beat up pretty quick. But if I buy the TravelPro or Swiss Army stuff it’ll last me a while. All I know is that I need to try and buy whatever I’m going to buy tomorrow. Last-minute-itess.

My talk at the GDC last week went great – thanks for all the good wishes. It wasn’t as well attended as I would have liked, but I was up against the game developer’s rant and that is an insanely popular session (and where I probably would have been if I hadn’t been speaking at the same time). I had good questions in the Q&A and had my own little group of fanboys/fangirls asking me more questions after that. I forgot to bring business cards and only had four so it was soooper flattering having people claiming them in the order I took questions. The best part for me was that Will sat in and complimented me after. Pretty cool.

One of the things I’m looking forward to most in China will be visiting a store that sells pirated software. Not because I’m looking to purchase, just because I’m interested to see how it’s done.

off to bed. g’nite.

is this what they mean when they talk about Web 2.0?

Been seeing interesting new web resources lately…

Looks like a great way to check out how users are clickin on stuff: MapSurface

Don’t meet me through isolatr. (this one is fake…)

Don’ piss me off, or I’ll snubster you. (not fake. no, really.)

Fanciest Whois tool I’ve seen in awhile.

I’m getting ready to ramp a new web team for my project, hence the renewed interest in web technology. Will likely be looking for a Producer (might already have a bead on this one), a couple engineers and a designer. Might outsource the design. Not sure.

a big ass refrigerator

today my brand new refrigerator arrived. it’s lots bigger than my old one (20.5 cu ft compared to 14 cu ft) and black instead of beige. what a wonderful thing to put food into a fridge that’s never held any kind of mystery food that’s been in there too long. the freezer has a shelf. a shelf! and the shelves inside the fridge slide out.

it’s so pretty.

my first 12 hour day in a long, long time

Today I was busy. Very busy. And very excited and engaged and mostly unaware of the co-worker who drives me crazy. In fact, that, as a problem, has been resolved by deciding I can’t change it. Instead I’m just not going to focus on it.

But today, I got to think about space weapons, and blowing up planets and the sounds they make and how that might look. And how cool is that?

I’m getting all moxious and playing Kingdom of Loathing. Haven’t had much time to play WoW lately, so this is sorta like a poor man’s WoW, but sillier and way, way lighter weight. I’m a Disco Bandit. My name is Stylie.

Also played some Zork last night. I was researching grues and got lost for a bit. open mailbox, take leaflet, read leaflet, n, n, e…

And I have a copy of Black, which I haven’t started playing. Saving it for the weekend when I’m not quite so tired or worried about the sounds of guns pissing off my neighbor. It’s a loud game.

So many games. So little time.
