From LA

Spending a few days at Big Daddy’s.  Laying low, but running around a bunch. Playing games (I got an Xbox360 through work), eating out (Campanile for Thanksgiving – yummy  fancy-schmancy place with BD and Big ‘n Silly), seeing movies (Rent – it was eh.  Not gritty enough for me – too shiny which made it feel a little too dated – but the acting/singing was great).

Last night we went to the Magic Castle, a private magic club with an old guy dining experience (big hunks of meat with sides like creamed spinach) in an old house on a hill in Hollywood.  Cool old place and I guess they used to have parties with Charlie Chaplin and stuff there.  The food was decent.  The magic (what we say of it – seemed like we were about 10 minutes off the schedule and kept missing stuff) was pretty cool.  Saw a sleight of hand guy who was great.   Could do all sorts of amazing things with a deck of cards, and had a cool mullet.  Went to a birthday party after where I saw Bill Maher and Michael from last season’s Big Brother and some strippers and some crazy housekeepers who stared at everything like they had never seen the gays.

Heading back to SF tomorrow.  Need to finish the crazy work stuff tomorrow night for monday.  Poor planning…. the program I need to use is web-based and works like shit on my Mac.  which is all I have with me in LA.  can’t even get Flock to spoof IE as a user-agent to get it to work.  crappy work thing.

Hope yer havin’ a good ole holiday weekend.

pals and games and stuff

Sure, I won’t be home for dinner even one night this week, but it’s been a good week for dates and dinner with pals and movies and still have Depeche Mode to look forward to. Life is good, as they say. Well, as I say today anyhow.

It’s crazy how many games are released this time of year. I keep telling myself that I don’t need to buy every single one that I want, yet I wander in to buy one game and then walk our with a second one, too. And then I borrow another from Brian, and I haven’t even finished the one I’ve been playing most regularly.

And the wackiest thing is I started playing WoW again last weekend too. Rolled two new chars – one that I’m only going to play on Sunday mornings with a group of friends so we can level together. And a second on the same server that I can use to feed the other one supplies and money.

Off to see Big Daddy in LA next weekend. Lots of fun in store down there and a good long weekend off of work. The question now is what games am I taking with me?

Zombie Cats

Nope… not a link to a cool zombie cat website.

I had my second dream about zombie cats this morning right before I woke up, had the first one Wednesday night.  In this one I was trying to capture one in a straw basket to try and get him into the furnace to burn him and he was doing all he could to bite me (which I believe would be how I would become a zombie cat too).  They start off small and slimey kinda like a big unshelled snail and then turn into lizard-y things before they become cats.  So I guess they are like mutant zombie cats.  Very hard to kill.

My mom was in this one.  She was a bystander.  And my friend Karen was there.  She didn’t want to kill them and couldn’t understand why I was trying to rid the world of the zombie cats.

In the end I was heading to Denmark to do research.

I’ve never been one to analyze my dreams much, but if you have any clues feel free to chime in.  And no Cheese wasn’t very obnoxious in the night.

my lecture next year….

I’m speaking at next year’s Game Developer’s Conference – it’s the industry shindig in March. My topic is Building Community Around Pollinated Content in Spore. Not open to the public, but I’m sure I’ll need to rehearse it beforehand.

Maybe it’s Katamari.  Maybe it’s Oenden.  But I’m loving the crazy japanese stuff that keeps running across my desk….

My two favorite things…

The moment I’ve been waiting for:  Coffee Beer

A cool commercial filmed in SF.  Super Balls

The best Google maps use I’ve seen yet – Google maps scavenger hunt

My company signed a deal to make a bunch of Simpsons games.  I’m not on that team or anything, but hopefully they won’t suck.  That team is sitting near some Lord of the Rings guys and they’ve made some pretty funny posters.

Don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to work, do stuff and see friends.  I wish someone could invent a day lengthener.  I could use a few more hours per day.
