‘03 Pride

the dykes on bikes contingent seemed smaller. the lesbians and gay men and their children seemed bigger.

the people we ended up standing next to were great. they gave us these lovely cocktails and were fun to cheer with. so a big karmic thank you to the people in front of Stacey’s books with the vodka, juice, campari, soda water drink. cheers!

the day started out foggy and ended up glorious. another sunny Pride. amazing.

it didn’t seem as crowded along the parade route. but there were still big lags in the parade.

it was more of a celebrate-y Pride and less of a protest-y Pride. Go Supreme Court!

i don’t have the same stamina for Pride as I used to. or maybe i will again next year, but this year i just didn’t feel very gay.

i saw very few people i know. some were out of town. and some i’m just out of touch with. i should buy MJ a ticket to come up next year.

cheering for PFLAG still makes me teary. 16 Prides later.

i didn’t go to one movie for the Gay Film Fest. first time in 13 years. not quite sure how that happened.

next year i want to make reservations for lunch in the afternoon at Zuni. if i’m in town.

when did wife beaters become the main fashion choice for lesbians?

i missed the gay square-dancers. dancing like that outside of junion high school gym class takes balls whether you’re gay or straight.

poor spunky

My cat is stuck wearing one of those funky cones around his head. He had a little growth-type thing removed so they can send it off to the lab and now he’s got a couple little staples in his belly, which he is not supposed to lick. If you’ve met Spunky, you know that he is already kind of dorky. Well, the cone makes his equilibrium a little wonky and he keeps running into stuff. Like walls and chairs and my leg. poor little funny lookin’ guy.

Big week for the gays. First the Supreme Court decision in Lawrence et al. v. Texas which basically reverses the 1986 Bowers v. Hardwick decision. While listening to NPR about it on the way to work the other day I thought back to the many protest and Prides I’ve been to and I finally thought that things are getting better.

And then, to top it off for me, Strom Thurmond, that old nasty homophobe, died. Good week to celebrate on lots of counts it seems.

Now if only Jesse Helms would get hit by a big ass truck. That would really make my Pink Saturday.

it’s gonna be a hot one…

it’s going to be in the 80s in SF today. for those of you not lucky enough to live here, that’s pretty hot. unfortunately i have to go to work out in Walnut Creek where it will be in the 90s. hoowee.

broke a losing streak last nigth. finally got to see a Giants/Dodgers game which the Giants won! nothing like going to the game with a 16-year old boy who can quote statistics and isn’t afraid to make lots of noise at PacBell park. Go Ollie!

So, as much as i’m loving my laptop, the new G5 are going to be calling my name in the fall. crazy speeds. crazy!

6:30 am

For some reason I’ve started waking up between 6:30 and 7 am without an alarm clock. I’m still tired and all, but boy I’m awake and there is no going back to sleep. blech.

Crazy day ahead – I think my schedule has all of two blank half hours on it. Meetings straight through. Between 3:30 and 4 pm I need to be in 3 different meetings. Not sure how I’m going to manage that one. heh.

I’m so busy I keep forgetting it’s Pride month. wow.

not spam…

i actually got some email to this account today that wasn’t spam. i almost deleted it – the subject was “website”. for some reason i actually went to the web page and found a cool-looking dyke band from australia called Hotbox. haven’t downloaded any of their demos yet, but they’re all pretty cute babes.
