well, it’s been sorta surreal, but i am back again in the workforce. so far, so good; i can’t believe how lucky i got.
back to Tahoe for the weekend, saw 25 Hours last night, working, living life. school seems like a distant memory for me…
food, games, and a few things i’m thinking about.

go vote for my pal, Sabrina Mathews, in the Comedy Central Stand-Up Showdown. thanks.
It’s been almost 2 years since I had to ‘go to the office’ but tomorrow morning I’ll do just that. It feels bizarre to think that I will be making and accepting meetings, creating plans for projects, learning and teaching and generally trying to earn a living again. As much as I can’t wait, I still have that first day of school nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. eep.

eating (and drinking):
First Crush with a big ole group last night. I didn’t love it. My meat was totally overdone – when I say medium-rare, I mean medium-rare. Their wine prices were quite high in my opinion. They had some nice bottles of Ridge but super pricey. The service was absolutely horrible. I know we were a big party, and I know big parties are a pain in the ass, but we had almost finished a bottle of wine before they even took our order – and we had to get that bottle of wine from the bartender. I won’t be going back there again.

contemplating:
how will i be at this job? will i be successful? will i love it as much as i think i’m going to love it? how much will my paychecks be? when will i get my first paycheck? when will my new Mac arrive? what will it be like to work full-time again?
So a little over a month after finishing school, I’m about to start on the next big thing. After close to 16 hours of interviews with over a dozen different people, I was offered a job at Maxis, the folks behind The Sims and SimCity. Somehow I managed to snag the job of my dreams right outta school. So the celebration has begun and will last all week – and I start work next Tuesday. I’m still in shock.
so Ellen Degeneres’ new talk show was picked up by NBC. I think that’s great news because I think she’s pretty funny and I think it shows that she’s being appreciated for her comedy and that the lesbian thing isn’t something that holds us back as much anymore.
What’s not great is that in San Francisco, which has the potential to be one of her best markets, NBC doesn’t exist. The transmitter is down in San Jose somewhere and not powerful enough to broadcast up here. Until I get a job, I’m not getting cable (or DirectTV – which will probably be my choice when I do get a job), so this has been a year without Friends, or the West Wing or well, any NBC shows. The best thing to come out of it (besides my grades because less TV meant more studying) is that I started watching Buffy. Hey, I get UPN and the WB afterall.
In other news, have now had a total of 14 hours of interviews for one job and got an email late last night (around 11 pm) asking if I could answer some questions about my management skills and come in today and meet with the COO again. I’m hoping that they will make a decision soon – but send me the good vibes, eh?
so, my pal Derek invited me to be his friend on Friendster and I took him up on it so I too could enjoy all my gay men friends writing witty testimonials about me. it’s way better than Six Degrees ever was and i’ve been seriously Friendster surfing today. i have a strange interest in online networking and i wonder if it will ever be successful, although it seems to never quite achieve critical mass. this one i like because it is both for friendship (which i always have interest in) and dating (which i don’t particularly need right now.
so, i ordered a book for my ex (a therapist) a couple years ago and Amazon is still trying to sell me books about obsessive compulsive disorder. great. and how come my Gold Box specials have had the WWE Electronic Smackdown Live: Enterance three times? what’s up with that? usually the Gold Box has at least one coffee maker, some kind of wireless networking thinger and that damn WWF thing. well, two out of three ain’t bad…
so, i guess it’s time to do some resolutions for the new year – in no particular order
- get a job that i like and give my all to it
- lose some weight by utilizing some form of exercise
- having at least one “No Beer” month (but not January during the playoffs/superbowl)
- appreciate and stay in touch with my friends more
- try snowboarding again
- learn more about PHP
- spend more time playing games with real human beings instead of computers
- spend more time playing games on computers
- read the Lord of the Rings trilogy (already started on this one)
- go visit my folks and grandmother in the first quarter
- and leftover from last year’s list: start learning a musical instrument
…. and of course, post to my ‘blog more.

my mac is sickly so i may be on/off/on/offline a bit over the next few days. the internal battery seems to have decided to stop functioning correctly – at least I hope that’s all it is. i’m still waiting to hear from the tech dude. trying a new mac fix-it shop. we’ll see how it goes.
hope everyone had a great new year’s. i had a mellow and happy one myself. i’m finding myself relaxed and ready to kick 2003 ass.
